Journey dossier

An editorial two-day itinerary with four stops and car transfers between them. The first day connects two places of faith; the second moves from the Roman city to the world of dinosaurs. Each stop has its own story and pace. Corvin and Colț remain separate visits; the four stops do not form a marked walking trail.

Stops

4 Traces

Difficulty

Visits to individual sites, with walking at each stop; not a continuous hiking trail. Accessibility depends on each place’s spaces and conditions.

Best season

Choose dates that work for all four places. The House of Dwarf Dinosaurs publishes seasonal hours from 15 May to 15 September and appointment-only visits during the rest of the year. Check feast days and Ulpia’s hours; do not apply restrictions published for Sarmizegetusa Regia here.

Before you go

Safety is part of the journey.

Transfers are planning estimates checked against the road network on 30 October 2026 between the vicinity of the attractions, rather than confirmed car parks. They exclude live traffic, temporary restrictions, finding parking, queues and walking. Between Densuș and Ulpia, if travelling directly, the distance is approximately 12 km: allow 25–35 minutes. Check the road journey on the day and respect services and site rules.

Practical information checked 30 October 2026

  • On the day of your visit, check opening information, closures, and rules in the official resources.
  • Use only areas open to visitors and respect barriers, signs, and instructions from staff or the community responsible for the place.
  • Take care on steps and uneven or slippery surfaces, and supervise children.
  • Keep your phone charged and adapt the visit to the weather and the conditions you find on arrival.

Traces along this road

Day 1 — Prislop and Densuș

Begin at Prislop and continue to the church at Densuș. Both are active religious communities: fit visits around services and guidance on site. The transfer between the two sites’ areas is approximately 27 km; allow 35–50 minutes of driving, plus arrival and walking time.

Densuș Church

St Nicholas Church, Densuș · Hațeg Country

A living medieval church built with reused Roman fragments, where stone, painting, and community care belong to different periods.

Day 2 — Ulpia Traiana and Sânpetru

Begin with Ulpia Traiana and continue to the House of Dwarf Dinosaurs. Allow 20–30 minutes of driving for approximately 14 km between the two areas. Arrange the House visit first: its seasonal Sunday hours end at 14:00, and visits from 16 September to 14 May are by appointment. Do not rush the Roman visit to recover a delay; move a stop if the schedule does not allow both.
